Rangers 2 Stirling Albion 1
Rangers Under 15’s supplemented by three Under 16’s took on a Stirling Albion side made up of 16’s and 17’s at Murray Park this afternoon. The Ibrox youngsters came from behind and a Josh McPake double was enough to secure the win.
After a fairly even opening period it was the visitors who threatened first on twelve minutes, the attack came down the right and when the ball was played across to the left side of the box Lewis Budinauckas got down to his right to make the save. Rangers first real effort on goal came just before the twenty-minute mark, Kyle McClelland moved the ball forward to Ciaran Dickson who passed to Josh McPake on the left side of the penalty area, he cut inside before forcing a save from the keeper low to his right.
A couple of minutes later Euan Deveney broke forward from left-back and his twenty-five yarder took a slight deflection to take it just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. The corner was worked between Kai Kennedy and Josh McPake who moved it to Ciaran Dickson on the right hand angle of the box he fired for goal with the keeper getting down to his right to parry.
Just after the half-hour Stirling broke from halfway to the edge of the box with the shot straight at Lewis Budinauckas. Rangers were soon back on the attack and when a corner was cleared from the Stirling area Josh McPake’s shot was saved low at the keeper’s right hand post. Rangers missed a great chance five minutes before the break, Euan Deveney picked out Josh McPake inside the box and superb chest control opened up the goal but he shot wide of the keeper’s left hand post.
Stirling took the lead on the stroke of half-time, an enterprising run from right-back took then into the right side of Rangers penalty area, Lewis Budinauckas parried the shot, the rebound was blocked but the ball rolled towards the back post where it was fired into the net.
