Cup Win For Youths

Rangers 3 Edusport 0

Rangers Development side progressed to the next round of the Youth Cup with a win over Edusport at Forthbank tonight. In truth progressing to the next round was the only real positive to take from tonight’s game with the result being in the balance until the eighty-ninth minute. Despite an early goal and dominating possession Rangers rarely looked like adding to their tally against a poor level of opponent.

Rangers created their first chance on five minutes, from a free kick on the right hand byline Jamie Barjonas picked out Zak Rudden and his effort was just wide of Daniel Farrell’s left hand post. Two minutes later Rangers took the lead, Jordan Houston moved the ball forward to Max Ashmore who passed to Zak Rudden inside the box, when challenged by a defender the ball broke back to Max Ashmore who shot past the keeper from around the penalty spot.

The game had almost reached the half hour mark when Rangers created two chances in as many minutes. Josh Jeffries moved the ball forward to Zak Rudden who’s pass sent Serge Atakayi through on goal but he shot wide of the keeper’s right hand post. Within a minute Lewis White hit the byline on the left and when he fired across goal Zak Rudden just failed to connect from close range.

Half-Time:- Rangers 1 Edusport 0

Edusport started the second half with a bit of confidence and tried to take the game to Rangers without really looking like levelling the tie. Four minutes after the break Yacine Boualem’s pass sent Francisco Gomes through the inside left channel, he broke into the penalty area but his shot was weak and Robbie McCrorie saved comfortably. Five minutes later Josh Jeffries latched on to a loose ball and from his shot from the edge of the box Daniel Farrell saved to his left.

Just after the hour mark Jamie Barjonas sent the ball out to Liam Burt wide on the left, he cut inside before shooting across goal and wide of the far post. With twenty minutes of the half gone Ross Lyon’s through ball set up a race between Serge Akatayi , Zak Rudden and Daniel Farrell in the Edusport goal, with the keeper saving bravely and the Rangers players feet.

As the final ten minutes approached Jamie Barjonas played Liam Burt through the inside left channel, he went past a defender before forcing Daniel Farrell to save low to his left. With eight minutes remaining the Lowland Development League side had their best effort at drawing level, when the ball broke to Gautier Moutou on the edge of the penalty area his volley was just wide of Robbie McCrorie left hand post.

With a minute left on the clock Jordan Gibson went past two defenders as he drove towards the penalty area, he slipped the ball through for Zak Rudden to poke past the keeper. There was still time for Rangers to put a gloss on the scoreline that was harsh on the visitors, Ross Lyon passed to Liam Burt wide on the left and he was brought down as he went past a defender inside the box with the spot kick being converted by Zak Rudden.
