Rangers 1 Celtic 1
A late goal secured a deserved point for ten man Rangers in tonight’s Glasgow Cup Sectional tie at Murray Park tonight. Trailing to a penalty midway through the second half that led to Cammy Palmer’s red card, Jordan Houston’s equaliser two minutes from time secured the point.
In a first half that saw both teams cancel each other out it was only in the last ten minutes that either goal seemed in any danger. Eight minutes before the break Kieran Campbell got to the right hand byline and Brian Kinnear did well to dive out and collect his low cross. Five minutes later David McKay tried his luck from distance with the ball slipping just wide of Brian Kinnear’s right hand post.
Half-Time:- Rangers 0 Celtic 0
Rangers came close to taking the lead twelve minutes after the break, Dapo Mebude attacked the left side of the Celtic penalty area and when the ball was cleared to the edge of the box Billy Gilmour’s shot was diverted behind by the legs of Ryan Mullen. Just over five minutes later Matthew Shiels attacked the penalty area and the ball broke to Zack Butterworth on the elft side of the penalty area but he shot straight at Ryan Mullen.
A miscued Lewis Mayo clearance was to prove costly as it gave Celtic an unneccesary corner on the left. The ball was sent beyond the back post where it was headed back across goal and nodded goalwards where Cammy Palmer handled on the goal line. The Rangers midfielder was duly red carded and the penalty converted. Five minutes later Rangers lost Billy Gilmour to late Ewan Henderson challenge for which the Celtic player was shown a yellow card.
With the clock ticking Jordan Houston picked up the ball just ouside the right side of the Celtic penalty area, he cut inside past a defender to make space for a shot that was deflected as it flashed past Ryan Mullen.
