Friendly Win For 20’s

Rangers Development side took on Queen’s Park tonight in a friendly at Murray Park, it was arranged to provide game time to those who missed out with a few first team players involved in last night’s Development League game. Last night’s game was abandoned at half-time due to a linesmen taking ill. So I’ll start with a report on last night’s first half.

Rangers 2 Hibernian 1

Rangers had an early chance on two minutes, Zak Rudden sent the ball out to Amin Abaradan wide on the right, he cut inside before shooting, Ross Laidlaw knocked the ball up in the air, when it was cleared from the box Ross Lyon fired it back in with Ross Laidlaw getting down to his left to save.

Rangers took the lead on eleven minutes, Ross Laidlaw’s clearance was headed back towards the Hibs box by David Bates and Joe Dodoo raced into the box to shoot past the keeper. Within a minute Rangers doubled their lead, good play on the left involving Zak Rudden and Joe Dodoo ended with the latter’s flick freeing Ross McCrorie inside the box to slot past the keeper.

Midway through the half Josh Jeffries played the ball forward to Joe Dodoo on the edge of the box, he laid the ball back into the path of Josh Jeffries and a slight deflection took the ball just over. As the final ten minutes approached Hibs pulled a goal back, James Keatings delivered a free kick from the left and it landed perfectly for Neil Eardley to volley past Robbie McCrorie from around eight yards.

Rangers 5 Queen’s Park 1

Rangers came close in the third minute when Myles Beerman’s free- kick from around twenty-five yards clipped the bar on the way over. Five minutes later it was another free-kick and this time Myles Beerman made no mistake, curling the ball into the keeper’s top right hand corner.

Rangers doubled their lead on the quarter-hour, Sam Jamieson played the ball up to Jordan Gibson on the edge of the box and a superb turn and shot beat the keeper low to his left. As the half hour mark approached Sam Jamieson picked the ball up close to the left hand byline, he cut inside and forced and save from the keeper low to his left.

In the final minute of the half Queens moved the ball to the right side of the Rangers penalty area, but the shot was weak and Robbie McCrorie saved comfortably. Rangers immediately responded by increasing their lead, Liam Burt intercepted  on the edge of Queens box, as he took on a defender the ball broke for Andy Dallas who fired into the net.

Rangers added a fourth early in the second half, Jordan Gibson moved the ball forward to Jamie Barjonas who played in Serge Atakayi on the right side of the box who slotted the ball past the keeper. Rangers scored a fifth just before the hour, a corner from the left went beyond the back post to Andy Dallas who’s shot was handled, with Jordan Gibson converting from the spot.

The visitors came close to scoring five minutes later, a corner from the left went to the back post but the header was wide of the post. A slack Ursene Mouanda pass presented Queens with a chance but Lewis Muir produced a fine save diving to his left. The consolation goal came with a couple of minutes remaining, Queen’s Park got to the right hand byline and the cutback was fired into the net.
