15’s Hit Six

Rangers Under 15’s recorded a comfortable win over Dundee United in today’s Development League game at Murray Park. The opening goal came on seven minutes when Owen McGinty was played through the inside left channel, he continued into the box before shooting past the keeper. United were level four minutes later, Lewis Budinauckas miscued a clearance and the ball went straight to a United attacker who had the simple task of knocking the ball into the net.

Rangers regained the lead just before the quarter-hour, Kai Kennedy played a short corner to Owen McGinty who skipped past a defender on the left hand byline before picking out Kyle McLelland who netted from close range. Midway through the half Harris O’Connor played the ball forward to Ciaran Dickson who picked out Owen McGinty’s run into the left side of the box with the United keeper coming off his line to make the block.

Within two minutes Owen McGinty went past a defender as he broke into the left side of the penalty area and again he was thwarted by the keeper rushing from goal to make a similar save. Rangers grabbed a third on the stroke of half-time, Kai Kennedy passed to Matty Yates wide on the right and his low cross was converted by Owen McGinty from close range.

Rangers fourth came nine minutes into the second half, Owen McGinty’s powerfully struck free-kick was spilled by the keeper and Ciaran Dickson pounced to fire the rebound into the net. As the midpoint of the half approached Rangers scored again, on the edge of the box and just right of centre Owen McGinty sidestepped a defender before firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net.

As the final five minutes approached Darren Waterstone’s cross from the left found Matty Yates who forced a fine save from the keeper low to his right, with a defender clearing just before Simon Millar could pounce. The scoring was completed with a couple of minutes left on the clock, Kai Kennedy was fouled as he went past a defender on the left hand byline with Matty Yates converting from the spot.
