Rudden Hat-Trick Secures Points

Falkirk 1 Rangers 3

A superb Zak Rudden hat-trick saw Rangers take all three points in tonight’s Development League match at Falkirk Stadium. A poor first half from Rangers ended with an injury time equaliser and a much improved showing after the break saw them record a deserved win.

The home side took the lead on six minutes, Reis Peggie went past Ross McCrorie on the left and his cross was perfect for Nathan Austin to head past Robbie McCrorie. As the half-hour mark approached Scott Shepherd robbed David Bates on the edge of the box and broke into the right side of the penalty area, the Rangers defender got back to hold up the striker with the ball eventually  breaking to Nathan Austin on the edge of the six yard box, a goal seemed certain until Kyle Bradley got in a block that deflected the ball wide of the far post.

Rangers drew level in the first of seven minutes of injury time, added on due to an injury to Falkirk keeper Lewis McMinn. Ryan Sinnamon won a challenge on the left that took him to the byline on the left, he looked up to pick out Zak Rudden who found the far corner with a superb first time finish.

Half-Time:- Falkirk 1 Rangers 1

There was only six minutes on the clock after the break when Rangers took the lead. Ross Lyon sent in a corner from the right and it was met on the volley near the front post and about eight yards out by Zak Rudden and the ball flew past Deniz Dohan Mehmet in the Falkirk goal. Within in a minute Josh Jeffries cut in from the right and tried his luck from distance but his shot was straight at the keeper.

Rangers secured the points with ten minutes remaining, Ross Lyon dispossessed Jonny Mitchell and attacked on the left side of the penalty area before playing the ball across the box and setup a simple finish for Zak Rudden. The home side came close when Nathan Austin inside the left side of the penalty area cut inside David Bates before shooting narrowly over.

Like the first half there was a significant amount of added time, this time due to a damaged net. A couple of minutes into the added time Rangers broke quickly, Josh Jeffries found Liam Burt and he broke towards the Falkirk penalty area, he picked out Ross McCrorie’s overlap into the right side of the box but the defender delayed his shot a fraction allowing Deniz Dogan Mehmet to make the save. The last action of the match saw a chance for the home side, a corner from the left broke to Liam Henderson inside the box but he shot straight at Robbie McCrorie.
