14’s Lose To Older Opponents

Rangers 2 Airdrie 4

A predominately Under 15’s Airdrie side were just too strong for Rangers Under 14’s in a friendly at Murray Park tonight.

The visitors threatened early with an attack into the left side of Rangers penalty area and it took a decent save from Jay Hogarth at his near post to prevent a goal. Rangers replied when Ciaran Dickson broke to the edge of Airdrie’s box and shot narrowly wide of the keeper’s right hand post.

On eleven minutes Rangers were awarded a free-kick just to the right side of the Airdrie penalty area from which Euan Deveney forced a fine save from the keeper low to his right. Airdrie  capitalised by taking the lead two minutes later, the attack came into the left side of the box and the shot from a narrow angle beat Jay Hogarth.

Rangers had a great chance to equalise on twenty-one minutes, Kai Kennedy sent Chris McKee through on goal but he was thwarted by a fine save from the Airdrie keeper low to his left. Five minutes later Ben Wylie robbed an Airdrie defender just outside the right side of the penalty area and was tripped inside the box, he stepped up to take the spot-kick himself but was denied by a brilliant save from the keeper who dived to his left to parry.

Just before the end of the first period Airdrie attacked and from the shot from the edge of the box Jay Hogarth produced a superb save diving high to his left to turn the ball onto the post. Rangers equalised early in the second period, Kai Kennedy played a corner from the left to Ciaran Dickson on the edge of the box and he fired over the keeper into the net.

Rangers were only level for two minutes when a quick Airdrie break ended with their player breaking into the left side of the box and shooting past Jay Hogarth. The visitors continued to attack and Jay Hogarth saved when their attacker cut in from the left before shooting.

Rangers replied when Ciaran Dickson and Kai Kennedy combined on the edge of the box with the latter shooting just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. Airdrie increased their lead when the ball was played through the middle and the attacker held of Ally Monro before continuing into the box and shooting past Jay Hogarth.

Rangers then created a similar chance when Kai Kennedy sent Chris McKee through, he held off a challenge from an Airdrie defender but shot wide of the keeper’s left hand post. Rangers reduced the deficit soon after, Kai Kennedy passing inside to Ciaran Dickson who beat the keeper from just inside the box.

Airdrie  went straight to the other end and when a cross came in from the right Jay Hogarth came but failed to gather, the ball fell at the feet of an Airdrie player at the back post but could only hit the side netting with the goal gaping. The scoring was completed nine minutes into the final period, the ball was cleared from Rangers box and Jay Hogarth was given no chance from an unstoppable volley.
