14’s Held By Morton

Rangers 2 Morton 2

Rangers under 14’s with three trialists in the starting lineup were pegged back by Morton after going into an early two goal lead. Both sides then missed chances to win the game with a draw being the fair result.

Rangers opened the scoring in the second minute, Paul Ogilvie crossed from the right, Ben Marshall didn’t quite connect with his volley but the ball fell for Aaron Bryson who fired into the net. Three minutes later Rangers doubled their lead, Kai Kennedy sent Euan Deveney to the byline on the left, his cross was controlled on the chest by Aaron Bryson before shooting past the keeper.

Morton replied with an attack down the left that took them into the penalty area but the shot went across goal and wide of the far post. Their next attack came down the right and the cross went to the back post where the shot forced Lewis Budinauckas to save at his near post.

The visitors pulled a goal back with six minutes of the period remaining, the attack started on the left and when the ball came into the box Ciaran Dickson caught the attacker as the ball was flicked over his head and the referee pointed to the spot which was duly converted. Just before the midpoint of the second period Euan Deveney had a go from a twenty-five yard free kick that hit the top of the bar on the way over.

Within two minutes Morton were level, their striker capitalising on a slack Harry Livesey pass to break into the right side of the penalty area and shoot past Lewis Budinauckas. Rangers had a great chance to regain the lead around the midpoint of the final period. Euan Deveney combined with Kai Kennedy on the left side of the box and when Kai Kennedy turned he was brought down and the referee awarded a penalty. Matty Yates stepped up but was denied by a fine save from the keeper low to his left.

Morton finished the stronger and missed a couple of chances before the end. The first came from an attack on the left side of the box but the shot was across goal and wide of the far post. The next chance came on the other side and on this occasion it took a save from Lewis Budinauckas to deny the visitors.
