Comfortable Win For 20’s

Rangers 3 Dunfermline Athletic 0

Rangers Development side put Monday’s disappointing defeat to Thistle behind them with a comfortable win against Dunfermline at Murray Park this afternoon. The Rangers youngsters dominated and never at any stage looked like losing the game.

Goalmouth action was at a premium in the the early stages and the only significant event came on eighteen minutes when Jamie Barjonas picked up an injury and was replaced by Max Ashmore. More than half an hour had elapsed when Ross Lyon shot over from around twenty-five yards.

The game burst into live with six minutes of the half remaining, Ross Lyon in possession on the edge of the box passed to Scott Roberts who’s shot was only just wide of Cammy Gill’s left hand post. The visitor’s replied when Liam Coogans picked out James Thomas inside the left side of the Rangers penalty area but his effort was weak and Robbie McCrorie saved comfortably low to his left.

Rangers went straight back up the other end and Ross Lyon cut in from the left past a defender before shooting narrowly over. Right on the stroke of half-time Rangers took the lead, Rory Currie on the edge of the box passed to Jordan Gibson to his left and a good turn and shot beat Cammy Gill low to his left.

Rangers doubled their lead on fifty-seven minutes, Ross Lyon swung in a corner from the left to the near post and Cammy Gill under pressure miscued his punch and the ball landed in the net for an Own Goal. Less than five minutes later a corner at the other end caused the Rangers defence a few problems with Ross Lyon clearing James Thomas’s shot from the line.

A fine move on seventy minutes carved out a chance for Rangers, Jamie Mills on the left passed the ball back to Max Ashmore who moved it inside to Scott Roberts. The midfielder fed the ball to Rory Currie inside the penalty area, who then laid it back to Scott Roberts who’s shot was deflected just wide of the keeper’s right hand post. With twelve minutes remaining Scott Roberts sent Rory Currie through on the left side of the penalty area but he shot wide of the near post.

Two minutes later Rangers scored a third, Josh Jeffries passed to Scott Roberts who attacked into the left side of the penalty area before passing the ball across Cammy Gill and into the far corner of the net. With six minutes remaining Tom Lang limped off as Rangers continued with ten men.

It was the ten men who created the next chance, Jamie Brandon attacked the right side of the box before passing to Jordan Gibson who was denied by a fine one handed save from Cammy Gill. Rangers were reduced to nine men in the final minute when Josh Jeffries was shown a straight red card for aiming a kick at an opponent.
