St.Mirren 3 Rangers 4
Trailing 3-1 at half-time three points looked highly unlikely for the young Rangers side but a great second-half comeback culminated in Josh Jeffries superb winner with four minutes to go.
Rangers started the game well, taking the lead after only three minutes, a great run from Fraser Aird took him from his own half to the edge of St.Mirren’s penalty area where he allowed Ross Lyon to take over and continue into the box before shooting past Dan Wilks. Just after ten minutes Craig Halkett switched play to Scott Roberts wide on the left, the ball was moved inside to Josh Jeffries who passed to Lewis White and on to Ryan Hardie inside the box to shoot straight at the keeper.
The next attack came down the left and when the ball was passed inside to Josh Jeffries he forced a save from Dan Wilks low to his left. As the twenty-minute mark approached Jordan Thompson strode forward before shooting wide of the keeper’s left hand post from the edge of the box.
St.Mirren hadn’t been seen as an attacking force but fired a warning of what was to come on twenty-one minutes, Jordan Stewart’s free-kick from the right hand angle of the box came off Liam Kelly’s crossbar on the way over. The home side drew level within in sixty seconds, Dylan Pooler passed in from the right and Mark Lamont gave Liam Kelly no chance as he fired into the top right hand corner of the net from the edge of the box.
The home side then took the lead four minutes later, Jordan Stewart, won the ball from Josh Jeffries on halfway before breaking forward to exchange passes with Dylan Pooler on the edge of the penalty area and continue into the box and shoot past Liam Kelly. Thirteen minutes before the break Saints increased their lead, Kyle McAllister passed across the edge of the box to Dylan Pooler on the right, he picked out Mark Barrowman inside the box and the centre back curled a shot back across Liam Kelly and into the net.
Rangers tried to reply with Josh Jeffries sending Fraser Aird towards the byline on the right, he laid the ball back to Josh Jeffries who’s shot from just outside the right side of the box was just too high. On the stroke of half-time Craig Halkett played the ball forward to Jordan Thompson, a good turn created space for a shot but again it was just too high.
Half-Time:- St.Mirren 3 Rangers 1
There was just over an hour gone when we saw the first real effort of the second-half, Dylan Dykes sent Ross McCrorie down the right, he passed inside to Scott Roberts who moved it on to Josh Jeffries, it was eventually returned to Dylan Dykes on the edge of the box and his net bound strike was tipped over by Dan Wilks. The corner from the left was moved to Dylan Dykes on the edge of the box, he passed to Ryan Hardie inside the box, where the striker held off a defender to turn and shoot past Dan Wilks.
As the final ten minutes approached Lewis White sent the ball into the box from halfway where it was controlled by Ross McCrorie before turning and shooting past Dan Wilks. There was four minutes remaining when Rangers grabbed what had looked an unlikely winner, when Dylan Dykes was challenged twenty-five yards from goal the ball broke to Josh Jeffries whose superb strike gave Dan Wilks no chance.
There was still time for another couple of near things, Ross Cameron turned past a defender on the left hand byline and his effort from a tight angle was blocked by the legs of Liam Kelly. Straight to the other end and Ryan Hardie twisted and turned to create space close to the right hand corner flag, before picking out Danny Stoney at the back post, his header looked destined for the net until Dan Wilks managed to paw the ball behind.
Deep into injury time Andy Murdoch and Dylan Dykes combined to move the ball forward to Scott Roberts who’s shot from the edge of the box forced Dan Wilks to tip over.
