Late Double Secures Point

Rangers 2 Hearts 2

Two late goals secured what looked an unlikely point for Rangers in tonight’s Development League match at Dumbarton tonight. The game had entered the final quarter-hour when Ryan Hardie’s goal brought Rangers back into the game and Jamie Brandon’s late strike secured a point with a couple of minutes remaining.

Rangers got off to a bad start following behind in the third minute, a poor pass put Max Ashmore under pressure just outside his own penalty area and he was dispossessed by Kenny Anderson who’s shot struck Robbie McCrorie’s left hand post, Wilson Carvalho was quickest to the rebound and took a touch before shooting past Robbie McCrorie. Rangers replied with Ross Lyon setting up a chance for Darren Ramsay from just outside the box with his shot going wide of Jack Hamilton’s left hand post.

Chances in the first-half were at a premium and there was almost half an hour gone when a Josh Jeffries corner from the right was headed back across goal by Luca Gasparotto and Ryan Hardie’s acrobatic over head kick had Jack Hamilton diving to his left to turn the ball wide.

With an hour on the clock Rangers fell further behind, Wilson Carvalho switched play from the left to Gary Oliver on the right, he took on Luca Gasparotto on the right side of the penalty area before shooting across Robbie McCrorie and into the far corner of the net. Rangers tried to get back into the game with Josh Jeffries cutting in from the right and past two defenders before shooting from around thirty yards just wide of the keeper’s left hand post.

Midway through the half Dario Zanatta held the ball up inside the Rangers box before laying it back to Sean McKirdy who tested Robbie McCrorie, saving at his near post. Rangers then grabbed a lifeline with eleven minutes remaining, Ryan Hardie robbed Jahmal Howlett-Mundle close to the byline just outside the right side of the penalty area, he continued into the box before shooting under the hand of Jack Hamilton and into the net.

The equaliser  came from a great move with two minutes remaining, Ross McCrorie and Josh Jeffries combined on the right to send Ryan Hardie breaking down the right and into the penalty area, he cut inside a defender before unselfishly rolling the ball across the box for Jamie Brandon to slot the ball into the net. The final effort came from the visitor’s  with Gary Oliver’s powerfully struck thirty yard free-kick forcing Robbie McCrorie to get down to his left to hold the shot.
