Development League Win In Paisley

St.Mirren 1 Rangers 3

Rangers Development League side recorded a comfortable win at a rain and windswept St.Mirren Park tonight. The young Rangers side were generally in control and after Ryan Hardie had given them the lead they never really looked like losing the points.

The first real effort on goal came just before the twenty-minute mark, Ryan Hardie showed good skill before passing the ball to Fraser Aird on the left, he cut inside before shooting and a deflection took the ball just wide of the far post. Within a minute Fraser Aird was trying his luck from around thirty yards and another deflection forced Dan Wilks to save low to his left.

Rangers were continuing to be the attacking force and when Kyle Hutton sent Ryan Hardie down the left, he cut inside before shooting from a narrow angle that Dan Wilks stood up to save. Less than sixty seconds later Rangers should have taken the lead, Darren Ramsay fed Ryan Hardie on the right, he picked out Fraser Aird arriving around the penalty spot but he shot over.

It was bang on the half-hour when Rangers made the break through and it was a disaster for Saints midfielder Adam Brown, he failed to notice Ryan Hardie when attempting a pass back giving possession to the Rangers striker who accepted the present to shot past Dan Wilks. Adam Brown almost made amends on the stroke of half-time when he sent a free-kick over the defensive wall and off Robbie McCrorie’s left hand post.

The second half was just over five minutes old when Rangers doubled their lead, Jack Baird got underneath Robbie McCrorie’s clearance and his glancing header left Ryan Hardie through on goal, he continued into the box and beat Dan Wilks with a cool finish. Five minutes later Rangers scored again, Kevin Mbabu got to the byline on the right and his driven ball across the six yard box was diverted into his own net by Saints defender Jack Baird.

The home side replied almost immediately and following a set play the ball was crossed from the left and landed at the feet of Mark Williams at the back post and he drove the ball past Robbie McCrorie. Saints then had strong claims for a penalty with twenty minutes remaining, Lewis Morgan burst into the box and he appeared to be caught by Kevin Mbabu on the left hand byline but the referee pointed for a corner.

The final chance came in injury time and it was for the home side, Connor Murray played the ball forward and Lewis Morgan got the break of the ball in a challenge with Craig Halkett that left him in the clear, his shot from the edge of the box had Robbie McCrorie stretching to tip over.
