Stalemate For 17’s

Rangers 0 Motherwell 0

Rangers Under 17’s came up against an inspired goalkeeper in Peter Morrison at Murray Park this afternoon. Dominant for most of the ninety minutes the Ibrox youngsters had several chances but just couldn’t get the better of the Motherwell keeper.

The only real effort on goal in the opening twenty minutes came from a Ross Lyon free-kick from the edge of the box that Peter Morrison dealt with comfortably. When the game reached that mark the visitor’s keeper dived to his right to deny Sam Jamieson after he was released inside the right side of the penalty area from a fine Liam Burt reverse pass.

Just before the half-hour Liam Burt charged down a Peter Morrison clearance and briefly it looked like the ball was heading for the net but went across goal and was cleared by a defender. Ten minutes before the break Jamie Barjonas passed to Sam Jamieson wide on the right, from his cross Liam Burt’s superb over head kick was only just kept out by Peter Morrison, gathering at the second attempt.

Within sixty seconds Jamie Barjonas tried his luck from distance with the ball dipping late and only just clearing the Motherwell crossbar.

As the hour mark approached Sam Jamieson was clear on the left side of the box, but a heavy touch allowed Peter Morrison to advance from his line to block with his legs. Despite Rangers dominance they could have fallen behind five minutes later, Ryan Watters latched on to a slack Lewis White pass back, as Lewis McMinn advanced from goal he poked the ball past the Rangers keeper but wide of the keeper’s left hand post.

With fifteen minutes remaining Motherwell were reduced to ten men when Adam Livingstone was shown a straight red card for a dangerous two footed challenge on Ross Lyon. Within in a minute Jamie Brandon’s through ball saw Peter Morrison save at the feet of Ross Lyon just inside the box and when the ball eventually arrived back at the feet of Jamie Brandon the ‘Well keeper had got back to his goal line to turn his shot over.

When the resultant corner broke to Ross McCrorie on the edge of the six yard box he looked certain to score but Peter Morrison managed to divert his toe poke wide of his left hand post. Rangers final chance came with three minutes remaining, Andy Dallas progressed along the eighteen yard line from right to left before passing to Sam Jamieson just inside the box, he aimed across goal for the far post but Peter Morrison dived to his left to turn the ball wide of the post.
