A Rangers Under 14’s side supplemented by four U15’s (year 2000’s) entertained Capital Area RailHawks , an academy side affiliated to Carolina RailHawks from Raleigh, North Carolina. The American youngsters who are coached by former Rangers Greg Shields were a mix of 2000’s and 2001’s. This was their third game in as many days. Having narrowly lost (2-1) to Everton and then recorded and high scoring win over a Sheffield boys club.

Rangers were almost stunned in the opening minute when the visitors first attack took them into the right side of Rangers penalty area and it toook a fine Brian Kinnear save low to his right to prevent the opening goal. Rangers replied when Billy Gilmour passed in from the left to set up a shooting chance for Ben Williamson that the keeper scrambled wide of his right hand post.

There was only five minutes on the clock when Brian Kinnear was called into action again, the RailHawks midfielder was allowed to break towards the Rangers penalty area and when he shot for goal the Rangers keeper got down to his right to turn the ball wide. Rangers capitalised by taking the lead just before the ten minute mark, Dylan Patterson was the provider when he picked out Carlo Pigniatello with a cross from the left, who knocked the ball over the keeper with a controlled volley.

The Ibrox youngsters doubled their lead twelve minutes into the second period, Billy Gilmour split the visitor’s defence with a superb pass that released Niyah Joseph on the right side of the box and he  dinked the ball over the keeper and into the net. The third goal soon followed, Rangers passed the ball from right to left through several players to Zac Butterworth on the left hand angle of the box, his shot crashed of the underside of the crossbar with Carlo Pigniatello following up to net from close range.

As the period entered the final ten minutes Rangers trialist almost got on the score sheet, released on a Dapo Mebude pass he was denied when the keeper dived to his right to parry. The touring side almost reduced the deficit seven minutes into the final period, from a corner from the right the header looped over Nicky Hogarth but Michael Hewitt was well placed to head from the goal line.

The scoring  was complete with eight minutes remaining, Dapo Mebude broke forward before moving the ball on to Lewis McGrattan who’s pass freed Carlo Pigniatello on the left side of the box to calmly slot the ball past the keeper.
