17’s Ease Into Glasgow Cup Final

Rangers 2 Partick Thistle o

A goal in each half saw Rangers Under 17’s ease past Partick Thistle and into the Glasgow Cup Final at Murray Park tonight. They now await the winners of tomorrow’s semi-final between Celtic and Queen’s Park. Rangers always had the edge, although there was fully twenty minutes gone when the game saw its first real chance and Rangers really should have scored. Following a corner from the right Sam Jamieson found himself in possession wide on the left and he picked out Jason Krones unmarked in front of goal but his volley went just wide of the keeper’s right hand post.

The opening goal was only delayed a further five minutes and it came from a quick Rangers break following a Thistle corner, Sam Jamieson breaking down the left before passing inside for Josh Jeffries who side-stepped the on rushing keeper before rolling into the net. Rangers continued to have the bulk of the play but the next chance came just before the break, Josh Jeffries and Sam Jamieson exchanged passed on the right side of the penalty area and from former’s cross Jack Thomson rose to head just wide of the far post.

Half-Time:- Rangers 1 Partick Thistle 0

There was no change to the pattern of play in the second half with Rangers continuing in the ascendency and when Sam Jamieson passed to Ross Lyon inside the left hand side of the box the Thistle keeper was forced to divert the ball wide of his near post. Two minutes later Rangers should have doubled their lead when they carved open the Thistle defence, a super Josh Jeffries pass found Liam Burt wide on the right, his pass inside sent Sam Jamieson through one-on-one with the keeper who won the duel by diverting the striker’s shot wide of his left hand post with his leg.

The second goal was only delayed a couple of minutes and came just before the hour, Sam Jamieson in possession on the right hand angle of the box cut inside before beating the keeper from the edge of the box. The visitor’s threatened as the final quarter-hour approached, from an attack on the right side of Rangers box the shot was saved comfortably  by Robbie McCrorie low to his right. A few minutes later the Rangers keeper was stretched a bit more, from a free-kick on the edge of the box he had to dive to his left to turn the ball wide of the post. There was no further significant goalmouth action as Rangers saw the game out comfortably.
