Glasgow Cup Defeat For 17’s

Rangers 0 Celtic 2

Rangers 17’s suffered their first defeat in this season’s Glasgow Cup going down to Celtic at Murray Park tonight. The most disappointing aspect of tonight’s performance was that the Rangers side couldn’t muster one shot at goal in the entire ninety minutes.

The game was hardly a classic and the first real action of note in the first half came when Celtic took the lead seven minutes before the break and it was poor goal for the Rangers youngsters to lose. Max Ashmore’s pass put Jamie Brandon under pressure and he was dispossessed by Brandon Payne on the edge of the Rangers box and the Celtic midfielder entered the area before shooting into Robbie McCrorie’s bottom right hand corner. Only a brilliant Robbie McCrorie save prevented Celtic increasing their lead three minutes before the break, Tony Ralston hit the byline on the right and when Theo Archibald got a touch on his low cross the ball looked to be heading for the far bottom corner until the Rangers keeper dived to his right to produce a stunning save.

Half-Time:- Rangers 0 Celtic 1

Rangers came as close to a goal as they would in the ninety minutes early in the second half, Grant Nelson did well to ride a challenge from Daniel Church as he attacked on the right and his cross had Ross Doohan in trouble but the ball bounced clear from the face of his crossbar. Midway through the half Regan Hendry cut in from the left before passing to Mark Hill on the right side of the Rangers penalty area, he went past Ross McCrorie before firing across goal and wide of the far post.

Rangers fell further behind with seven minutes remaining and it was another poor goal from a Rangers perspective, with the centre backs forward for a free-kick the ball was cleared to the halfway line where Jamie Brandon lost possession to Aidan Quinn who raced into the right side of Rangers box where he held off Max Ashmore and rolled the ball across goal for Regan Hendry to shoot past Robbie McCrorie.
