Rangers 1 St.Mirren 1
Rangers and St.Mirren had to settle for a point each in their Development League clash at Dumbarton’s Bet Butler Stadium tonight. Yet the final minute saw both sides fail to take a golden opportunity to secure the three points.
It was the visitor’s who created the first real chance of the match after twelve minutes, Stephen Mallon’s cross from the right reached Adam Brown at the back post and when headed back across goal Barry Cuddihy looked likely to score but was denied when Liam Kelly advanced from his line to block. Three minutes later Lewis McLear laid the ball back for Stephen Mallon to try his luck from distance with Liam Kelly holding the ball under the crossbar.
As the midway point in the half Rangers took the lead, Darren Ramsay and Andy Murdoch combined on the right and when the latter passed to Danny Stoney inside the box a superb turn created the space for him to shoot past Dan Wilks. Rangers almost doubled their lead on twenty-seven minutes Ryan Sinnamon and Darren Ramsay exchanged passes before the midfielder went for goal and his effort from around thirty yards was just wide of Dan Wilks left hand post,
Barely sixty seconds later St.Mirren were level, a cross field pass from right to left found Jordan Stewart on the angle of the box, he cut inside past Ryan Sinnamon before drilling the ball past Liam Kelly.Ten minutes later some neat passing play from the visitors concluded with Stephen Mallon playing the ball up to Barry Cuddihy on the edge of the box, he rolled it inside to tee up Lewis Morgan who’s shot had Liam Kelly diving high to his left to save.
Half-Time:- Rangers 1 St. Mirren 1
The second half started fairly evenly and it was after the hour mark when Rangers came close to edging ahead, Darren Ramsay’s corner from the right eventually was collected by Ryan Hardie at the back post and when he teed up Greg Pascazio on the edge of the box his shot looked to be heading into the top corner until Dan Wilks dived high to his left to turn the ball wide of the post. As the last fifteen minutes approached Scott Roberts broke towards the Saints box before shooting just wide of Dan Wilks right hand post.
When Barry Cuddihy’s pass found Robbie Mitchell free inside the box in the final minute his lob looked to be securing the points for the away side until Liam Kelly stretched to produce a superb stop and react quickest to collect the loose ball. Rangers went straight to the other and, Darren Ramsay’s ball into the box from the right saw Ryan Hardie challenge with Mark Barrowman on the edge of the six yard box, the Rangers striker was first to the loose ball and laid it back to Andy Murdoch who was denied when Dan Wilks got down to save his shot from around ten yards, There was still time for Darren Ramsay to be red carded following a clash on the byline with a Saints player.
