17’s Lose To Motherwell

Rangers 0 Motherwell 1

A Rangers Under 17’s squad that included six under 15’s  lost narrowly to Motherwell at Murray Park tonight. The visitor’s took the lead with the game’s first real chance on twenty minutes, Rangers lost possession with some slack play on the right side of defence and when the ball was centred the Motherwell striker had a simple task to shoot past Lewis McMinn. Four minutes later Rangers came close to drawing level, Lewis White switched play from the left to find Junior Ogen on the right side of the box, he lobbed the advancing keeper but the ball dropped just over the crossbar.

Two minutes later Motherwell forced a save from Lewis McMinn, from a right-wing cross the header was on target and the Rangers keeper dived to his right to save. Rangers missed a great chance to equalise a few minutes after the half-hour, Adam Wilson progressed to the byline on the left and his ball across goal found Jamie Brandon at the back post, the midfielder looked certain to score but knocked the ball over from close range.

Motherwell created a chance two minutes into the second half, a one-two on the right side of Rangers box created the chance with Lewis McMinn standing up to make the save from a powerful strike. The Rangers keeper was called into action again a couple of minutes later when ‘Well attacked through the middle, with Lewis McMinn again showing his handling was spot on.

Rangers then came close at the other end, Lewis White was the architect hitting the byline on the left, his cutback found Junior Ogen who’s shot was just wide of the keeper’s right hand post. The next effort on goal was along range strike from Motherwell that Lewis McMinn held under his crossbar.

On sixty-five minutes a long ball down the inside left channel saw Sam Jamieson volley for goal but his effort was just too high. Midway through the half Lewis White played the ball up to Kyle Clark on the edge of the box and he slipped a pass to Sam Jamieson on the right side of the penalty area with the Motherwell keeper getting down to his left to save. Rangers final chance came with five minutes remaining, Ross McCrorie breaking from defence before shooting from around twenty-five yards with the visitor’s keeper diving to his right to turn the ball wide of the post.
