Late Strike Stuns U15’s

Rangers 1 Motherwell 2

Last night’s Under 15 game turned on a missed penalty and a stunning last-minute strike that saw Motherwell come from a goal down to win the game. A slack pass across the back four presented Motherwell with a chance on the left side of the box, the shot was powerful and Kieran Wright saved at the near post.

Motherwell were on the attack again, this time on the right of Rangers penalty area with Kieran Wright getting down to his left to make the save. Rangers replied when a long Jamie Barjonas pass freed Sam Jamieson on the inside right channel but the Rangers striker shot straight at the keeper.

Sam Jamieson was sent clear again this time on a Grant Nelson pass, with the Motherwell defence claiming offside he was through on the keeper, bet with too much time to think about it when he knocked it past the keeper it was also wide of the keeper’s left hand post. The same combination the produce the opening goal, Grant Nelson’s crossfield pass from the right found Sam Jamieson on the left side of the box, a great first touch took him clear of the defender and he slotted the ball past the keeper.

Motherwell got back on level terms early in the second half, it was created with a run along the left hand byline, when the ball was cut back Kieran Wright made a superb point-blank save but was left helpless as the rebound was knocked into the net. Rangers replied with a Jack Thomson pass releasing Andy Dallas on the left side of the box with the keeper making a decent save.

On the hour mark Dean Picken played the ball up to Sam Jamieson on the edge of the box, he passed inside to Liam Burt who stepped passed a defender before crashing a shot against the crossbar. When Sam Rutherford was robbed on the edge of the box it presented Motherwell with a chance but the danger was averted by a superb Kyle Bradley block.

As the game enter the final ten minutes Alex Lynn’s pass inside the left-back saw Liam Burt break into the box where he was brought down by a combination of keeper and defender for a clear penalty. Sam Jamieson stepped up but his shot was weak and it allowed the keeper to save low to his right. In the dying minute Motherwell moved the ball across Rangers box from left to right, when the ball arrived on the right angle of the box the full-back unleashed a stunning shot into the far top corner giving Kieran Wright no chance.

Rangers had one last chance to draw level, Grant Nelson progressed down the right and his pass into the box found Jack Thomson but he screwed his shot wide of the far post.
