Strike Duo Down Motherwell

Goals from the prolific strike duo Junior Ogen and Ryan Hardie were enough for Rangers under 17’s to record a win at Murray Park tonight. If truth be told the Lanarkshire side got off lightly with the Rangers youngsters unfortunate not to add to their goals tally.

In the opening minute Ross Lyon progressed down the right and his ball into the box setup Junior Ogen but on this occasion the Rangers striker blazed over. A superb Ryan Hardie reverse pass on the tenth minute released his strike partner on the right side of the penalty area and with a bit of composure a goal looked likely but Junior Ogen pulled his shot wide of the near post.

It was midway through the half before the visitors threatened, the attack was built down the right and when the cross was cleared from the box Robbie McCrorie saved the incoming shot comfortably. Rangers came close just after the half-hour, a superb run from Ryan Hardie down the right took him deep into the Motherwell penalty area, he stepped inside a defender before beating the keeper but was denied by a fine goal line clearance from a defender.

A minute later Ryan Hardie came even closer, latching onto a long ball on the right side the box he went past the keeper but was forced wide and his effort from a tight angle came back off the near post. On the half-time whistle Ryan Hardie passed to Junior Ogen on the right and his cross bounced off the top of Motherwell’s crossbar on the way over.

Motherwell created and missed a great chance in the opening minute, created down the right a pass into the middle created a chance for their striker who sent his powerful shot wide of Robbie McCrorie’s left hand post. Barely sixty seconds later Max Ashmore’s flick on set Ryan Hardie clear on the right side of the box, he again beat the keeper only to see the ball come back off the near post.

Rangers took the lead on fifty-eight minutes with a superb goal, Ryan Hardie played the ball forward to Junior Ogen on the right side of the box, he showed great skill to flick the ball over a defender and lob the ball over the keeper. The visitors replied with a great run down the left taking him past Kyle Bradley and Jordan Hamill, from the cutback the trialist keeper dealt a powerful shot.

Within two minutes Rangers had doubled their lead, Kyle Clark slipped a pass to Ryan Hardie on the right side of the box and he shot across the keeper into the far corner. With a quarter of an hour remaining the ball was cleared from the Motherwell box and Liam Burt’s effort was just too high.

It was the visitor’s who had the final chance with six minutes to go, when the pass inside came from the left the resultant shot was on target with Rangers trialist keeper diving to his right to make a fine save.
