Double Over United

Rangers Under 15’s and 17’s both recorded wins over Dundee United today at Murray Park, as is the norm I took in the game involving the older age group.

Rangers 1 Dundee United o

Ryan Hardie perhaps didn’t have his best game in front of goal, but it still took a goal from the Rangers striker to separate the sides in a game Rangers dominated. The United keeper was tested after eleven minutes when Ross Lyon tried his luck from distance with the keeper getting  down to his left to parry and his defence cleared.

A minute later the United keeper surpassed that with a brilliant stop to prevent Rangers taking the lead. Max Ashmore sent Chris McDonald on the overlap down the left and from his cross Ryan Hardie seemed certain to score but the keeper somehow managed to divert his header wide for a corner. On twenty-five minutes Ross Lyon was in possession on the left and he passed inside to Jordan Hammill and his strike from the left hand angle of the box was just too high.

A couple of minutes before the break Junior Ogen passed to Ryan Hardie who’s layoff sent Adam Wilson clear on the left, from his return pass into the box Ryan Hardie looked certain to find the net but he screwed his shot wide of the far post. Right on the half-time Max Ashmore’s corner from the right was met by the head of Ryan Hardie at the near post but his effort only found the side netting.

Half-Time:- Rangers 0 Dundee United 0

Fifteen minutes into the second-half Rangers had a chance from a free-kick just outside the left hand angle of the box, Ryan Hardie’s shot beat the defensive wall but the United keeper dived to his left to parry. Five minutes later Rangers took the lead, Lewis White attacked on the left and he lifted his head to pick out Ryan Hardie on the penalty spot and he took a touch before shooting past the keeper.

A minute later Jamie Brandon’s free-kick from midway inside the United half sailed over the keeper but struck the crossbar on the way over. Another sixty seconds had passed when Adam Wilson sent the ball out to Lewis White on the left,  his cross had the United keeper struggling and he was relieved to see the ball come off the face of the bar.

A similar move on seventy-five minutes began with an Adam Wilson pass to Lewis White on the left, this time he picked out a return pass to Adam Wilson on the edge of the box which he met on the volley and only a block from the keeper with his legs prevented a goal. Despite Rangers domination it took a brilliant Jamie Wilson save three minutes from time to secure the win. When the ball was cut back from the left hand byline a volley from the edge of the six yard box seemed sure to tie the game until the Rangers keeper somehow got across to keep the ball out.
