Garry Lynch Memorial Game

Cambuslang Rangers 1 Rangers 3

Former Ranger’s Gordon Dick and Nacho Novo lined up for Cambuslang Rangers in today’s 4th Annual Garry Lynch Memorial Game at Somervell Park.

Ten minutes had elapsed when the young Rangers took the lead, a long pass from Craig Halkett found Tom Walsh on the left side of the box, he stepped inside the full back before firing past Chris Treacy. Seven minutes later Nacho Novo had a chance at the other end, breaking into the right side of the penalty area he shot across goal and wide.

Rangers went straight on the attack at the other end with Charlie Telfer driving towards the edge of the box, the ball broke to Tom Walsh and his shot from the left side of the box forced a save from Chris Treacy low to his left. Midway through the half the home side equalised, when the ball was played into the box from the left to Nacho Novo he took a touch before turning and shooting past Liam Kelly.

Five minutes later Charlie Telfer’s thirty yard free-kick took a deflection and looped over Chris Treacy and rebounded from the cross-bar.

Six minutes after the break a good passing move ended when Tom Walsh’s reverse pass freed Charlie Telfer inside the box but he fired over. Two minutes later Andy Murdoch broke forward before feeding Callum Gallagher on the right, his low cross gave Jamie Burrows a great chance but he shot over from close range.

Rangers took the lead midway through the half, from a free-kick on the left side of the penalty area, Ryan Hardie shot through the defensive wall and under the diving Chris Treacy. The home side tried to reply and following a corner from the left the ball was fired goalwards, Liam Kelly got a hand to the shot and Andy McKinnon was on hand to complete the clearance.

As the half-hour approached Andy Murdoch sent Danny Stoney through on goal but keeper Chris Treacy made a fine save. The Rangers striker wasn’t to be denied and Danny Stoney intercepted a pass between keeper and defender before rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into the net.
