Rangers 0 Motherwell 1

A Rangers under 16 side that included under 18 player Kris Gibson lost to Motherwell at Murray Park tonight. In truth the Rangers side failed to cause former Rangers keeper Max Currie too much trouble over the ninety minutes.

The first move to threaten any keeper came after twelve minutes when Adam Wilson drove forward from midfield and tried to play Ryan Hardie through, keeper Max Currie was alert and moved from his line quickly to save at the striker’s feet. Three minutes later the home side missed a great chance, Ryan Hardie gathered the ball on the right hand byline and a trick took him past a defender to cross to the back post were Dylan Stevenson headed just wide.

Goalmouth action was at a premium and it was five minutes before the break when Motherwell worked their way to the byline on the left with Jamie Wilson diving to gather the resultant cross.

The second half had a low-key start and it was midway through the half when the Motherwell striker turned and fired a powerful shot at Rangers goal, but it was straight at keeper Jamie Wilson. Five minutes later Hussein Kaware broke into the right side of the box and Max Currie managed to divert his powerful shot for a corner. The visitor’s defence struggled to clear the corner and when another cross came in from the right Hussein Kaware’s acrobatic volley could only find the side netting.

With just less than ten minutes remaining Motherwell missed a great chance, an attack and cross from the right found the Motherwell striker in space with a free header but he could only head over the crossbar. The goal was only delayed sixty seconds, inter passing on the left sent the ‘Well player towards the byline, when the ball was cutback Jamie Wilson got a hand to the shot but couldn’t prevent it finding the net.

Five minutes later from a free-kick just outside the left hand side of the box the ball was struck powerfully through the wall with Jamie Wilson saving low to his left. Rangers tried to reply when Adam Wilson played the ball forward to Ryan Hardie on the right side of the penalty area but his shot was across goal and wide. The final chance of an equaliser came in the final minute, Andy McKinnon made a good break from halfway and played in Hussein Kaware on the left side of the box, but his effort was wide of the near post.
