16’s Win Over Queen’s Park

Rangers 5 Queen’s Park 0

A Rangers under 16’s squad with a few under 17’s had a comfortable win over Queen’s Park at Murray Park tonight. The home side created the first chance when Michael Mossie tried his luck from around twenty-five yards and the Queens keeper saved low to his right. At the other end a good passing move down the left ended with a shot from the edge of the box which was just over Liam Kelly’s bar.

Luke Hammond then broke forward and cut in from the left past two defenders before shooting just wide of the keeper’s right hand post. Rangers then took the lead when Sam Liddington played the ball forward into the box and a good touch from Ryan Hardie who brought the ball under control before shooting past the keeper.

The lead was soon doubled when a long ball from Steven Chatterton was brought under control by Ryan Hardie before lobbing the ball over the keeper and into the net. Rangers continued to press with Michael Mossie and Ben Reilly combining on the right from the latter’s cross Ryan Hardie took a touch before testing the keeper who saved to his right.

Queen’s Park were still in the game and when a loose ball was picked up in midfield a shot from the edge of the box came back off the crossbar with Liam Kelly beaten. As half-time approached Michael Mossie played a one-two with Ryan Hardie before firing a shot of the keeper’s left hand post. The ball found its way to Ben Reilly on the right and when his driven cross struck a Queen’s Park arm the referee awarded a rather harsh penalty with Ben Reilly stepping up to slot past the keeper.

The home side took less than sixty seconds to score their fourth, Kjeld McIntyre intercepted a slack pass from defence before setting up Ryan Hardie to complete his hat-trick. A powerful run from Junior Ogen took him past two defenders and into the box with the keeper just stretching enough to parry his chip.

The home side looked most likely to score the next goal and Lewis Morgan was next to try his luck with a long-range effort that the keeper turned wide of his right hand post. The fifth goal was only delayed and when Rangers were awarded a free-kick at the edge of the box Steven Chatterton stepped up to shoot through a poorly constructed wall and past the keeper.

A good spell of passing moved the ball out to Kjeld McIntyre on the right who cut inside before going for goal with the ball clipping the bar on the way over. The final chance came when the keeper parried Steven Chatterton’s free-kick from distance, Hussain Kaware challenged the keeper for the rebound with a defender arriving to clear from the line.
