Rangers 2 Hibernian 1
Rangers 17’s brought they season to a close with a narrow win over Hibernian at Murray Park tonight. With Hibs involvement in this weekend’s Scottish Cup Final all their youth games against Rangers were brought forward with the 15’s and 17’s games taking place at Murray Park tonight, as a rule I watch the game involving the older side so I took in the 17’s game.
Rangers created the first chance of the match after eleven minutes, Lewis Morgan won the ball on the right and passed inside to Charlie Telfer who exchanged passes with GloadyNtumba to set up a chance for Dylan Dykes breaking into the box with the Hibs keeper making a fine save. The opening goal came nine minutes later, Rangers were awarded a free-kick near the byline on the right and when Charlie Telfer sent a cross into the box Craig Halkett headed back across goal and Luca Gasparotto had a simple task to nod into the net.
Ten minutes before the break Hibs equalised, following a corner from the right Rangers struggled to clear and when the ball was played back into the edge of the box the Hibs striker shot past Liam Kelly.
Half-Time:- Rangers 1 Hibernian 1
Rangers came close in the opening minute after the break, Charlie Telfer swung in a corner from the left and Luca Gasparotto was only just wide of the left hand post with a header. Rangers regained the lead four minutes later with a stunning strike, Lewis Morgan brought the ball under control twenty-five yards from goal and sent a left foot shot into the top right hand corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.
With twenty minutes remaining Charlie Telfer was only just wide of the keeper’s left hand post from a long-range free kick, but five minutes later the home side had Liam Kelly to thank for keeping their lead intact, an exchange of passes on the right hand angle of the box created the chance with the Rangers keeper saving low to his right. The visitors them almost grabbed a last-minute leveler when a corner came in from the right a header only just cleared the Rangers crossbar.
