Rangers 3 Motherwell 1
For the second time in three days I watched a Rangers side take on Motherwell at Murray Park, this time it was the Under 14’s age group. The Fir Park side took the lead before the Rangers side got on top and established a two goal lead to secure the win.
Motherwell had the first real chance of the match and it took a fine Robbie McCrorie save to prevent them taking the lead, a slack pass was intercepted and the Motherwell striker made space inside the box for a shot on goal, the Rangers keeper dived full length to his right to not only make the save but hold the ball near his left hand post. Rangers almost immediately created a chance at the other end, Josh Jeffries made a superb pass inside the full-back to find Recce Duncan breaking into the box from the left but his shot was straight at the keeper.
Josh Jeffries had the first chance of the second period cutting in from right but the Motherwell keeper saved comfortably. The visitors then took the lead, Rangers lost the ball inside their own half and two passes later the ‘Well striker was through on goal, with the Rangers defence claiming offside he shot past Robbie McCrorie.
A neat passing move then created a great chance for Motherwell to double their lead and only a superb last-ditch tackle inside the box by Reagan Milne diverted the ball for a corner. The home sided capitalised on that let off when the Motherwell defence struggled to clear a corner from the left the ball landed at the feet of Reagan Milne who fired through a crowd of players into the net.
Rangers missed a good chance after a fine move down the left, Ross McCrorie won the ball and moved it on to Robbie Crawford his pass inside to Josh Jeffries gave him a great shooting chance but he elected to move the ball on to Gary McGreish who’s shot was straight at the keeper. Rangers then took the lead when Josh Jeffries spotted a pass that foundJohn Cunninghamfree inside the box, this time it was the visitor’s claiming offside as the Rangers striker found the net.
Rangers extended their lead at the start of the third period, Ross McCrorie won the ball on halfway before breaking forward and passing inside to Josh Jeffries his shot from the edge of the box found the net with the ‘Well keeper just failing to keep it out. Motherwell came close to reducing the deficit after the turn round, a good move down the right created the chance with Robbie McCrorie diverting the ball for a corner with his legs.
