Rangers 4 Gretna 2008 XI 0
Rangers youths, with doubles from Barrie McKay and Callum Gallagher overcame a Gretna 2008 XI at Murray Park tonight. After a tame opening period Rangers took the lead on sixteen minutes, the visitors had forced a corner and when it was cleared from the Rangers box Barrie McKay left two Gretna defenders in his wake as he broke from his own half, this left him bearing down on the last defender as he approached the penalty area, a neat side step took him clear to shoot past the keeper.
McKay was again involved just before the half hour mark when he sent Callum Gallagher through on the right hand side of the box but the striker shot across goal and past the far post. His goal was only delayed ten minutes when McKay and Robbie Crawford combined and sent Callum Gallagher through in a similar position and this time he made no mistake nwith a fine finish.
Again McKay was instrumental in Rangers next attack, sending Ewan McNeil charging towards the byline on the right, from the full-back’s cross Gallagher flashed a header across goal and wide of the far post.

The Gretna keeper was forced into action in the opening minute of the second-half, from Tom Skogrud’s left-wing cross Kamil Wiktorski’s volley appeared to be going wide until Gallagher reacted to divert it goalwards forcing the keeper to save low to his right. Five minutes in Rangers increased their lead, from McKay’s pass Callum Gallagher burst past a defender before rounding the keeper and finding the net from a narrow angle.
On 65 minutes Gallagher was sent crashing on the very edge of the penalty area, from the free-kick Barrie McKay stepped up to find the bottom corner. Five minutes later and it was a free-kick at the other end that called Alan Smith into action with the Rangers keeper diving to his left to parry.
With fifteen minutes remaining Tom Skogsrud switched play to McKay wide on the right, his pass inside to Aaron McGregor saw the midfielder return possession to McKay with a neat back heel and the winger shot just wide of the keeper’s right hand post. Another five minutes had passed when Crawford picked out the unmarked McKay at the edge of the box from a corner on the left, his powerful shot was parried by the keeper and he then reacted quickly to deny Sam McMahon from the rebound.
