Youths Meet QOTS XI

Rangers 3 Queen Of The South 2

Rangers Under 19’s took on a Queen Of The South XI in a friendly at Murray Park this afternoon. It wasn’t the best of days for defender Josh Robinson when he picked up an injury after only a few minutes and had to be replaced by Gregor Fotheringham.

Rangers came closed soon after  when a corner from the left was cleared from the penalty box, Lewis McLeod’s 25 yard effort was touched onto his left hand post by the visitor’s keeper. On ten minutes the home side took the lead, a free-kick from Barrie McKay beat the wall and found the bottom corner of the net.

Fifteen minutes later a stunning strike from Steven Degnan brought the Dumfries side level, the ball was cleared from the Rangers penalty area and he sent a first time strike into the top corner giving Blair Currie no chance. Ten minutes before the break Robbie Crawford setup a shooting chance for Kamil Wiktorski which the keeper tipped over.

Just like the first-half the woodwork came to the visitor’s rescue in the opening minutes, Darren Ramsay’s free-kick from the right and Crawford’s header clipped the crossbar on the way over. A couple of minutes later a neat reverse pass from McKay gave Wiktorski a chance inside the box but he was thwarted by a superb defensive challenge.

On the hour mark Rangers fell behind when the defence failed to clear a corner from the left and Steven Black scored from close range. A corner at the other end two minutes later almost brought Rangers level, Kyle McAusland’s header from Crawford’s corner from the left was net bound till a defender popped up to clear from the line.

Midway through the half Rangers grabbed an equaliser, the overlapping Tom Skogsrud was fouled on the left hand side of the box Adam Hunter’s low cross was missed by everyone and found the net at the far post. With twenty minutes on the clock Rangers scored what proved to be the winner, Ramsay won the ball on the right touchline and passed to Tom Skogsrud who found himself on the right hand side of the box, from the Norwegian full-back’s cross Jack Werndly was on hand to head past the keeper.
