Rangers Kids Win Mini Mondial Tournament

Following 0n from the brief report on Rangers Under 15’s success in Italy, Rangers Under 11’s were successful in the Mini Mondial Tournament in Orvault, Nantes, France.

Led by coaches Alan Kernaghan and David Stewart the Ibrox youngsters came top of the pile in a tournament with forty teams. Including French Boys Clubs, Ligue clubs Lyon, Bordeaux and Le Mans as well as guest clubs Barcelona, Rangers and Viborg FF.

Rangers won the 7 group games to qualify then met Lyon in the quarter final who have won the tournament in 2008 & 2009. This turned out to be their hardest match with the final score line of 3-2 flattering Lyon’s performance as they were outplayed for most of the game. The semi final game was against Le Mans in which Rangers won 3-0 comfortably.

This set them up for an exciting final against Bordeaux who eliminated Barcelona in the quarter finals. With the majority crowd behind the French and the referees and linesman making some controversial decisions Rangers ran out 3-1 winners to lift the trophy.The team made headlines in the local paper leaving Nantes with new French fans shouting ‘Glasgow Glasgow.’

The  Rangers squad was as follows:- Ross Brown, Euan McMillan, Jason Krones, Sam Jamieson, Josh Sweeney, Kyle McAllister, Luke Currie, Jamie Barjonas, Jack Sherrie, Blair Middleton, Aiden Wilson, Adam Baird.
