Seventeens Take On Warriors

Rangers 3 Stenhousemuir 1

Rangers under 17’s took on Stenhousemuir in a friendly at Murray Park tonight. The game allowed the coaches to have a look at a couple of trialists.

Stenhousemuir were first to threaten and only a great tackle inside the penalty area by Steven Hetherington cleared the danger. In the tenth minute Rangers took the lead with a great goal. Ewan McNeil crossed from wide on the right and Anthony Marenghi met it on the volley with his left foot to give the keeper no chance.

Rangers doubled their lead on 32 minutes when after a great turn at the edge of the box Ewan McNeil went past another defender and beat the keeper with a right foot shot. Less than five minutes later the visitors pulled a goal back when a corner on the left was headed past Blair Currie.

With five minutes remaining in the first half Rangers almost scored again from a corner of their own. This time Ewan McNeil’s set piece was headed goalwards by trialist Johnny Fisher and only a five save diverted the ball on to the bar and clear.

Rangers had a couple of efforts early in the second half, first Fisher tested the keeper from long range, then he sent the Trialist No 9 clear and the keeper saved his shot low to his left.

Midway through the second half the Trialist N08 went close cutting inside from the left, his shot was deflected narrowly wide. With fifteen minutes remaining Frankie Owens came even closer, picking the ball up in midfield he went past a defender at the edge of the box and his shot came off the underside of the bar and bounced on the line with the keeper stranded.

On 83 minutes Rangers eventually got their third goal, Kyle McAusland heading home Lewis McLeod’s corner. It was McAusland who had the last attempt in the match, a great run saw him go past three defenders only to see the keeper come out and block his shot.
