Goals from Stephen Stirling and Jamie Ness gave Scotland a perfect start in their Elite Qualifying round for the European Under 19’s Championships.

Trailing to Spartak Trnava’s Martin Guldan’s first half penalty Scotland equalised from the spot through Rangers Stephen Stirling. Scotland’s winner came midway through the second half when Rangers Jamie Ness volleyed home from 15 yards.

In the group’s other game England beat Bosnia 2-0, with a “Ranger” scoring here too, Newcastle United’s striker Nile Ranger netting the second goal. The first having been scored by Tottenham’s Danny Rose.

Scotland’s next game is on Friday, when they take on Bosnia at Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster, Kick-Off 7pm.
