Rangers 6 Dundee 1

Billy Kirkwood’s under 19 side took on Dundee in a friendly at Murray Park this afternoon and ran out comfortable 6-1 winners. There were two changes to the starting eleven that defeated Hamilton at the weekend, Grant Adam replacing Arturs Vaiculis in goal, and Kal Naismith coming for Danny Wilson. This meant a positional change with Darren Cole partnering Ross Perry in central defence.

From early on Rangers started to dominate and the first real attempt at goal came in the 9th minute when Archie Campbell cut in from the right and fired over. Two minutes later Stephen Stirling got to the byline and cut it back to Kyle Hutton who shot over from the just outside the six yard box.

A couple of minutes later and Rangers created another chance, Steven Forbes had a run and shot from the right side of the penalty area which Kyle Hutton attempted to divert into the net but knocked it wide. The breakthrough finally came on 23 minutes, an Archie Campbell cross from the right was headed past the keeper by Kyle Hutton.

On 30 minutes Rangers went 2-0 up, Gregg Wylde took a short corner on the right to Gordon Dick, he then whipped in a left footed cross from the return pass which was missed by forwards and defenders alike and ended up in the bottom corner of the net. Rangers were then forced to make a substitution five minutes later when Jamie Ness left the field to be replaced by Kane Hemmings.

Rangers then ran up a further three goals in the five minute period before the break. First on 40 minutes good play by Kal Naismith on the edge of the box was finished with a low left foot shot passed the keeper. A minute later another piece of good play by Naismith on the left and his cross was controlled in the box by Archie Campbell, who was then brought down as he turned the defender. The same player converted the penalty low to the keeper’s left, with the keeper almost managing to keep it out. Right on half time Stephen Stirling broke from the half way line passed two defenders and hit a low right foot shot to make it 5-0.

Rangers made a second change at halt time, with Kyle McAusland replacing Gregg Wylde. On 49 minutes Stephen Stirling tried to catch the goalkeeper out with a shot from wide on the right which just went wide.Ten minutes later a great bit of skill from Kal Naismith saw him through, he dinked the ball past the Dundee keeper only to see it come back of the post.

A few minutes later a miss hit corner by Naismith from the right was missed by everyone at the front post and cleared off the line. With around 20 minutes to go Rangers made their final change, Gordon Dick being replaced by Max Wright. Soon after it was 6-0, an Archie Campbell through ball sent Kane Hemmings through and he made no mistake.

With ten minutes left Dundee managed to get a consolation in what was their only real attempt at goal. A long ball was well controlled by one of the Dundee subs, he cut in from the right passed the Rangers defender and shot passed the advancing Grant Adam.
