Rangers 4 Hamilton Accies 0

Rangers were looking to close the gap at the top of the league at Murray Park this morning. After the stalemate between Celtic & Hibs yesterday, this was an opportunity to make up some ground on league leaders Hibs. Things didn’t get off to the best start when Hamilton were awarded a penalty in the 1st minute. After the Rangers defence failed to clear Hamilton striker Stuart Mills was tripped by Danny Wilson for a clear penalty. Joe Connolly stepped up and struck the spot kick to the keeper’s right and Arturs Vaiculis parried it clear with a fine diving save.

Rangers then took the lead in the 10th Minute, an Archie Campbell shot was blocked, but it broke to Gregg Wylde who fired in to the bottom right hand corner. It took Rangers until the 35th minute to extend their lead. A through ball by Jamie Ness, found Archie Campbell cutting in from the right and he fired a shot across the keeper in to the bottom left hand corner of the net.

In was relatively uneventful first half, Darren Cole and Stephen Stirling both picked up yellow cards, one of which was to prove costly later.

The start to the second half was again pretty low key with little happening until the 60th minute when Kyle Hutton should have extended Rangers lead. Stephen Stirling crossed from the byline, but Kyle Hutton headed wide from the edge of the six yard box. Five minutes later Rangers were reduced to ten men, Darren Cole bringing down the Hamilton player who was breaking from his own half. The referee had little option to show a second yellow and the subsequent red card.

There was certainly a bit more action this half and Rangers went three up in 70 minutes. Gregg Wylde attacked down the left, beating the last defender and rolling the ball across the six yard box to give substitute Kyle McAusland a simple tap in.

Hamilton then threatened to pull a goal back on 75 minutes, with Arturs Vaiculis first parrying a shot from outside the box, and then deflecting the follow up wide for a corner. One minute later It was 4-0, a through ball from Kyle Hutton, saw Stephen Stirling in race with the keeper who was advancing from his penalty area. Stirling got there first, nicking the ball passed the keeper and rolling it into the empty net.

Next chance came from Archie Campbell cutting in from the left, but his shot deflected of a Hamilton defender and wide for a corner. Then in the dying minutes we almost had a goal at each end, firstly Gregg Wylde cleared a shot off the line, and from the long ball up the park Archie Campbell was through one on one with the keeper. The Hamilton stopper Stephen Hall blocked the shot with his legs. That was the last chance for either side and Rangers have narrowed the gap at the top with a comfortable win.
